Typical Course of Study,

OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY - 6 credits

An overview of Old Testament law, history, poetry, and prophecy. Exposition of selected books and texts, including background information, authorship, and dating, as well as highlights of selected books. Major themes are examined.

NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY - 6 credits

An introductory study of the New Testament. Exposition of selected books including background information. Emphasis is placed on understanding the plan of redemption and the relationship of the New Testament teaching to the Christian life.

NEW TESTAMENT EPISTLES - 6 credits

Exposition of selected New Testament epistles, including historical data, authorship, dating, and relevant cultural information. New testament teaching is examined in its relation to the early church in its cultural context, and the problems faced by early believers. Emphasis is placed on the relevance of New Testament teaching to twentieth-century Christianity.

PRACTICAL THEOLOGY - 3 credits

An examination of Biblical teaching as it relates to key areas of Christian living. The impact of Bible doctrine on areas of human experience such as relationships, dating and marriage, and worldview is considered.

CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE - 3 credits

A foundational series of studies in major Bible doctrines. Emphasis is placed on the revealed persons and character of God in relation to the world, the church, and the individual believer. Other doctrinal studies include salvation, the church, and future events.

APOLOGETICS - 2 credits

A consideration of principles and approaches to the defense of the Christian faith. Evidence is examined in specific areas such as creation. Scriptural truth is also contrasted with the teachings of the cults.

MISSIONS - 4 credits

An introductory study of the nature, function, and worldwide mission of the Church. Along with a brief survey of world religions, individual opportunities for fulfilling the Great Commission are explored. Personal involvement in outreach is required.

HERMENEUTICS - 1 credit

An introductory study of the tools, approaches, and methods of Bible study. Emphasis is on principles of interpretation and dealing with problem texts.

Course Enrichment Options,

SHORT TERM CROSS-CULTURAL MISSION TRIPS

These mission trips generally take place each year during spring break, and provide first hand missions experience. Accepted participants are involved in all phases of missions including, training, fund-raising, study of language and culture, preparation of program materials, shots, travel, etc. A current passport may be required.

SUMMER CAMP MINISTRY

Students attending Ecola who have an interest in youth ministry have an opportunity to be on the Ecola Summer Ministry Team. The Summer Ministry option is a combination course involving classroom instruction with a summer of practical experience in youth ministry. During the spring, weekly classes will cover the basics of working in youth ministry, followed by several weeks of more intense training before the team is sent out to counsel at camps for the summer. Ecola’s Summer Ministry Team is selected from among those who apply.

ECOLA SCHOOL OF MINISTRY (S.O.M.) - 30 Credits

For those who have completed the first year of Ecola, we offer a second program with a focus on ministry and missions. Weekly classes cover further Bible study and the basics of working in ministry. Participants interact with full-time staff in a variety of ministry activities. School of Ministry students are selected from among those who apply. Contact our office for more information.
